Scoring for the MTBO World Ranking 2009
The scoring method will be the same as 2008. That means that points scored at any event will stand for 1 calendar year: the total of the 8 best scores during the past 12 month period will count for the ranking. Only WOC and EOC results will stand until they will be replaced through the new results of these events of the season.
A parallel ranking will be made by Ray Barnes (same as foot and ski) so as to evaluate this system for MTBO, which will then be used officially from 2010 onwards.
World Ranking results will be used for red group at WOC and EOC.
The scores according to placing in events will depend on the event.
There are three levels of scores:
(1) For WOC and EOC the first 40 competitors will score points as follows:
60, 54, 49, 45, 42, 39, 37, 35, 33, 31, 30, 29, ….., 1.
(2) For WR events where at least 3 of the top 10 of latest available World Ranking are competing (separately for women and men). The first 30 competitors score points as follows:
50, 44, 39, 36, 33, 30, 28, 26, 24, 22, 20, 19, 18, ….., 1.
(3) For all other WR events the first 25 competitors score points as follows:
40, 36, 32, 29, 27, 25, 23, 21, 19, 17, 15, 14, 13, ….., 1.
Results are always updated after a weekend with World Ranking Events. Old results from the year before drop out after new race weekends and not exactly after 1 year.
